Day 2
Pasta class, Agnone, cheesemaking experts, bell foundry,
lunch |
|
|
Learn how
fun and delicious making pasta at home can be. We'll
teach you all the tricks so it turns out great every
time. You will be amazed by the variety: pasta alla
chitarra, gnocchi, cavatelli, stuffed pasta and so on.
After lunch, we spend the afternoon in Agnone, just
across the border in the region of Molise. Agnone is
famous in the area for its quality cheese. We visit a
family-run business where you can watch the production
of mozzarella, ricotta and cacio cavallo cheeses. We
also tour an antique bell foundry where church bells are
still made by artisans for the Vatican and other
churches around the world. This is a museum with a very
interesting demonstration of the bell making process. |

Day 3
Cooking Abruzzo desserts, Trabocco, Vasto tour,
Shopping, Seafood restaurant |
|
|
We spend the morning baking
traditional Abruzzese desserts. After lunch at the
Palazzo Tour d'Eau restaurant, we go on an excursion to a trabocco, which is an 19th century fishing rig on
the Adriatic coast, only found in Abruzzo. Following
this unique experience, we spend the afternoon touring Vasto and shopping for those who are
interested. For dinner, we hit the best seafood restaurant in
town where a sampling feast is served. |

|
|
Learn how
make a variety of appetizers unique to Abruzzo. After
lunch, the afternoon is free for
exploring or resting. |
|
Day 5
Lanciano and local farms - Under the Abruzzo Sun |
|
|
We spend the morning in the town of Lanciano, with visits to a few churches of historical importance and other archaeological monuments of ancient Anxanum. We take time to do a little shopping on the main "corso" in the centre and stop for a famous pastry and a light deli lunch with gelato.
In the afternoon we hang out with a local Italian family at their country house where they prepare for us a traditional abundant dinner using their own organic produce and home-grown, home-canned preserves. We sample a variety of local meats and cheeses accompanied with homemade wine. |
|
Day 6
Santo Stefano di Sessanio and Rocca Calascio |
|
|
We dedicate
day 4 to inland Abruzzo, with visits to two unique
villages in the province of L’Aquila. Santo Stefano di
Sessanio, a truly medieval village, has undergone
amazing renovations that are delightfully tasteful.
Sights to see include intriguing narrow streets and a
watchtower open for anybody to climb. The town overlooks
a breathtaking valley with spectacular views. After
lunch, we proceed to Rocca Calascio, a 10th century
mountaintop fortress, built of stone and masonry.
Exclusively for military purposes and intended only to
accommodate troops, the fortress overlooks the Plains of
Navelli from one of the highest points. This area is
popular among movie directors and has been chosen for
many “spaghetti westerns” with Clint Eastwood and other
popular actors. |
|
Day
7
Visit to Anversa degli Abruzzi, Departure |
|
